Sound Mind Theater Show Chosen for Classroom Adaptation

(November 19, 2000)    Balance Publishing of Sanger, California, has chosen to adapt Sound Mind Theater's audio drama "ANTIETAM: The Lost Command" for its popular line of drama-related teaching materials for the secondary language arts classroom (6th grade and up). These materials are designed to motivate students to write, read, listen, speak and collaborate more effectively.

"ANTIETAM: The Lost Command" is a one-hour audio adventure inspired by events surrounding the Civil War battle of Antietam Creek, also known as The Battle of Sharpsburg. Written and directed by Telly and Cine Award winner Lee Davis, the program stars Ron Anderson, Justine Theilmann, and Larry Larson. Produced in 3-D audio by Hammock Audio Services, "ANTIETAM: The Lost Command" is available through Amazon.com and the LodesTone Audio Catalog.

A classroom-use kit will be developed from Davis' original script which will include a booklet, instructor's materials, discussion questions, a cassette of the program and reformatted scripts that can be copied for staging a read-along version of the program with students.

Don Kisner of Balance Publishing chose the Sound Mind Theater production for inclusion in the series, saying, "We believe the language arts classroom should be an active environment and that students should be involved--both physically and emotionally--in their use of language skills. We are continually developing and searching for activities and materials that tend to accomplish this goal."

The Balance Publishing product line includes dozens of titles, including "The Black Cat" by Edgar Allen Poe, "Chickamauga" by Ambrose Bierce, and "Traffic Incident" by Roger Rittner.
